Humans have had an enormous influence on long-term changes to climate climate since the mid-1800s. Humans have contributed to the release of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and this has resulted in more extreme weather and climate around the world.

There are lots of natural causes that also lead to changes in the climate system. Natural events such as volcanic eruptions, or natural sources of CO2 do contribute a small amount to climate change, but humans are the biggest influence.
